Is Verkada FedRAMP authorized?
Yes. Verkada Command, hosted in AWS GovCloud, achieved FedRAMP Authorized status at the Moderate impact level in May 2026, with the U.S. Department of Energy serving as sponsoring agency. Agencies can reference Verkada's FedRAMP package as part of their own authorization process, which reduces duplicative security review.
What is GovRAMP, and why does it matter more than FedRAMP for a state or county agency?
GovRAMP — formerly StateRAMP — is the authorization program built specifically for state and local government cloud purchases, and Verkada Command became GovRAMP Moderate Authorized in June 2026. For a Hawaii state department or county agency, GovRAMP is usually the listing your IT and procurement reviewers will ask about first, while federal agencies and the contractors supporting them look to FedRAMP. Verkada also holds TX-RAMP Level 2, completing the FedRAMP, GovRAMP and TX-RAMP set.
What makes a Verkada camera government-grade?
Government-grade cameras carry FIPS 140-validated encryption as validated by NIST, a TAA and FY2019 NDAA-compliant supply chain, and 24/7 US-persons technical support. They are FIPS-validated out of the box, so a device can be claimed into Command and run FIPS encryption in transit and at rest with no additional setup. Models use an -F suffix, such as the CD53-E-F outdoor dome.
Can a Hawaii agency use these systems without hosting in GovCloud?
Yes. Government-grade cameras work with either the standard Verkada Command environment or Command in AWS GovCloud, so an agency that does not require GovCloud can still buy government-grade hardware. Access to Command in AWS GovCloud is limited to US government organizations, including federal, state, local and tribal agencies, research institutions and government contractors.
