FAQ

Door access control in Hawaii — common questions

How much does door access control cost per door in Hawaii?

A complete commercial door typically runs $1,500–$3,500 per door — controller, reader, door hardware, cloud licensing, and on-site work by licensed contractor partners — and the per-door cost drops as you add doors to a shared controller. See our full guide to what door access control costs in Hawaii for the details.

Does Verkada access control need an on-site server?

No. It's fully cloud-managed through Verkada Command, so there's no on-premise server, panel rack, or NVR to buy or maintain — every door is managed from any phone or computer.

Can I manage doors on multiple islands from one dashboard?

Yes. A single cloud dashboard manages every door across Oahu, Maui, Kauai, and the Big Island, so multi-site organizations don't need a separate system at each location.

Does it work with wireless locks and existing readers?

Yes — including Verkada's own. Verkada's AL54 battery-powered wireless locks (AL54-CY cylindrical and AL54-MS mortise) connect to Command over Verkada's VLink wireless protocol, with a multi-technology reader supporting badges, mobile NFC, and Bluetooth. Command also integrates wireless locks from Schlage, ASSA ABLOY, and SimonsVoss, plus standard Wiegand and OSDP readers — so interior doors retrofit without new cabling.

Does Verkada access control integrate with fire alarm systems?

Yes. Verkada door controllers include a fire alarm interface, so when the building's fire alarm activates, controlled doors release automatically — keeping egress safe and code-compliant. The tie-in is engineered during system design and connected by our licensed contractor partner in coordination with your fire alarm company.

What credential options are available?

All the modern options: encrypted key cards and badges, key fobs, PIN codes, mobile NFC — tap an iPhone, Android, or watch, including Apple Wallet — and Bluetooth unlock through the Verkada Pass app. Gates can use license-plate recognition entry, and administrators can remotely lock or unlock any door from the web or mobile dashboard at any time.
